I’m using this service at my church and so far I love it. It’s easy to use and has a ton of functionality that I haven’t yet tapped into. –Cory
Hmm, seems like a waste when free calendar tools like Google Calendar are just as functional and actually look good. I took one look at the sample calendar at ChurchEvents and hurt my eyes. You can integrate Google Calendar via a link or embed in a page.
Or hey, go the full nine yards and register for Google Apps for your church. I’ve set it up for clients and organizations I volunteer with. Here is my initial review and progress migrating an entire Diocese.
I recently renewed our parish subscription to mychurchevents.com. When I logged in today, I saw our current month in “edit” mode. When I tried to go to the next month, I received an error message that the page could not be found! I rebooted my computer and again, I got the “first page” but when I tried to edit my calendar I lost the connection. What is the problem?!!!!
Lee, are you dis-satisfied with MyChurchEvents or with your computer? Either way, just sounds mostly like you’re venting… I’ll ask some other users of MyChurchEvents if they’ve ever experienced any hangs, etc. Either way, sounds mostly like it’s your computer.
Gerry, you get what you pay for… applies both ways to Google Calendar and MyChurchEvents. Saying Google is HUGE is an understatement, and to get in bed with them for free doesn’t offer the level of needed ease or support for some GenBoomers, or for $50 fifty dollars per user per year at their supported level is quite possibly out of reach for many. MyChurchEvents is friendlier to GenBoomers (period). It may not look as spiffy as google, but with some tweeks from somebody who knows what they’re doing it can look fine in terms of simple elegance and effectiveness. You are right, it can look very tacky, as can google. I agree their example is on the Low-end of what’s possible, but I imagine they don’t want folks to feel as if they’ve over-promised in terms of what’s they get for the Level of payment $5 (Five dollars) per month. That’s not very expensive you know… It’s an attainable solution.
Cory, right on man!
My church uses MyChurchEvents calendar. I thought… I’ll connect it via rss to my ical and thus my iphone so I can stay in the loop with upcoming events.
The rss feed is not compatible with ical. iCalendar is a standard application that is used by a large portion of people.
I contacted MyChurchEvents and they said that it did not work with iCal. They didn’t say they were trying to get it worked out, they did not offer a solution of any kind. They simply said it does not work.
You may not be able to get customer support with google calendar but at least it works.
I would not spend the money to buy something that simply does not work.
My 2 cents… If you have anyone in your church who uses ical you are better off finding a different calendar solution.
